October 2007- THE GREEN WELL Opens It's Doors...

945 Cherry Street Grand Rapids MI 49506 is the new home to the third "green" restaurant in the country.  The Green Well is the only restaurant in the Midwest that meets LEED Certification standards with both its exterior and interior construction.  Utilizing environmentally friendly materials, the design of the space creates a unique, tranquil dining experience.  Grand Rapids Chair Company met the designer's needs with products of recycled content that were manufactured with environmentally feasible methods. The steel frames and table bases were manufactured from recycled steel from Nucor, while baked on powder coat with zero VOC's was used as the finishing method.  Grand Rapids Chair Company also worked closely with Interface Inc. to design a seat pad from Resku, 100% recycled foam padding.  The table tops were crafted from maple sourced from certified renewable and sustainable forests.  Each top was hand finished with a water based stain in conscientious effort to promote "clean" manufacturing.

The Green Well is a leader in the ever expanding effort to support our environment with Eco-friendly institutions.  Grand Rapids Chair Company is proud to contribute to this "green" cause with unique products that incorporate recycled content and Eco-sensitive manufacturing processes.  We believe in safeguarding our environment for the benefit of the future.

July 2007- "College Ruled!"- The Amanda: Put Your Back Into It Design Winner

Congratulations to Charles Brill for his winning design,"College Ruled," in the "Amanda: Put Your Back Into It" design contest.  The innovative concept reminisces youth and the free spirit of young adulthood.

Explaining his design, Brill writes, "The chair back design for Grand Rapids Chair Company begins at the most pure medium to express your self, college ruled notebook paper.  Sketches, notes, love letters, journal entries all symbolize the emotional levitation occurring as one progresses through young adulthood. The end product represents the creative spirit and adventurous attitude resembled through notebooks of young minded students and visionaries."

This unique concept of a design is a playful adaptation of the Amanda chair that could be used throughout classrooms, study lounges, libraries, waiting rooms, and college campuses.

Kraig Kessel, one of the selected judges, explains "I liked the overall concept in terms of how well it would fit into an educational environment not to mention that the extendibility of the idea is quite strong. The notion of having various executions of the chair (i.e., math equations, love letters, journal entries, etc.) is a great idea."

Brill's design will be featured at the 2007 HD Boutique show in Miami Beach in September. Stop in Grand Rapids Chair Co.'s booth #1841 to see "College Ruled" and to meet designer Charles Brill.
